Teaser Tuesday: ENDLESS KNIGHT by Kresley Cole

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by MizB over at Should Be Reading. Here are the rules:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open it to a random page
  • Share two "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO REVEAL SPOILERS! (Be sure not to spoil the book for others!
  • Make sure your sentences don't reveal something important!)
  • Include the title and author to, so that other participants can add the book to their TBR lists if they like your teasers!
Teaser:

"The Arcana.  Into every dark age, twenty-two kids are born with supernatural powers and destined to fight in a life-or-death game.  Our stories are depicted on the Major Arcana cards of a Tarot deck.  I'm the Empress; we play again now.  Death, the reigning victor, won't stop until my blood bathes his sword."--start of book (and the reason to read :-))

I loved book 1, Poison Princess.  This follow-up sounds amazing, and since I can't wait to see how Evie deals with Death and the other Arcana, I'm hoping for great things.  And also: Jackson and his Cajun-ness :).  Can't wait to check out all the other teasers!

Teaser Tuesday: THIS IS WHAT HAPPY LOOKS LIKE by Jennifer E. Smith

Teaser:

"'Hey,' he said, glancing up at her and then away again.  For some reason he was having trouble looking at her directly, though it was all he wanted to do at the moment."--pg. 127

...and a little more b/c I just loved this paragraph :-).

"Everything around them was gray--the trees, the rocks, the sky, even the slate-colored water--and in the midst of it all, there was Ellie, with her red hair and white T-shirt, her jean skirt and rubber flip-flops.  It should have been the most ordinary thing in the world--this girl on the beach--but somehow, it felt to Graham like he was staring at the sun."--pg. 127

I am loving this book right now, everything about it.  I've never read Jennifer E. Smith before, but my introduction to her work couldn't be better :).

Happy reading,

Teaser Tuesday: PEACHES by Jodi Lynn Anderson

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by MizB over at Should Be Reading. Here are the rules:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open it to a random page
  • Share two "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page

Teaser:

"That summer, at a bar on Mertie Creek, two truckers by the names of Saddle Tramp and Mad Dog emerged from a night of drinking booze and listening to Kenny Chesney on the jukebox to find girls' underwear--one thong, one Days of the Week (Sunday), and one monkey face--lying across their windshields.  That same summer, rotten fish of an unidentified variety was found in the vent openings of several bathrooms at the Balmeade Country Club, and nobody suspected the connection."--pg. 1, Peaches

First two rocking sentences of this fantastic book :-).  I loved everything about Peaches, but this opening was hilarious--and also made me buy the book in the first place!  (Note to self: Need to do a review of this one :))

Happy reading,

Teaser Tuesday: BORN OF ILLUSION by Teri Brown

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by MizB over at Should Be Reading. Here are the rules:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open it to a random page
  • Share two "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO REVEAL SPOILERS! (Be sure not to spoil the book for others!

So technically, I just finished reading this one--but it was awesome, and I had to share!  Plus, isn't that cover Gorgeous???

Teaser:

"The moment our fingers meet, a spark flashes between us, so powerful I feel my heart stutter.  We stand frozen as the first shock subsides into frothy, electrical pulses that travel between our palms and tickle my flesh like effervescent bubbles."--pg. 12 & 13, Born of Illusion

And a second one just because :-).

"I shuffle a single card through my fingers several times, pop it in the air, and catch it in the middle of the deck.  Then I do a one-handed cut, a flip back, and then, for flourish, a long spring.

Some girl indeed."--pg. 180, Born of Illusion

What I really liked is how this book took me to another time and place.  I haven't read a lot of YAs set in this time period (1920s New York), and of course, I'm a sucker for magic and romance :).

Hope everyone's having a great week,

Tunes & Teaser Tuesday: BEAUTIFUL CREATURES by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

  • Share two "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO REVEAL SPOILERS! (Be sure not to spoil the book for others!

  • Include the title and author to, so that other participants can add the book to their TBR lists if they like your teasers!

Full disclosure: I saw the movie first--which I really enjoyed btw :-).

Teaser:

"But all I could see was a beautiful girl in a long gray dress, under a white track jacket with the word Munich sewn on it, and beat-up black Converse peeking out underneath.  A girl who wore a long silver chain around her neck, with tons of stuff dangling from it--a plastic ring from a bubblegum machine, a safety pin, and a bunch of other junk I was too far away to see.  A girl who looked like she didn't belong in Gatlin.  I couldn't take my eyes off her."--pg. 32, Beautiful Creatures

Almost finished with the book, and I think it's a really great example of YA written from the male POV.  Also, I love how we get a clear picture of Lena--and how Ethan can't take his eyes off her.  And as my TUNE IN TUESDAY pick (hosted over at Kate's Tales of Books and Bands), I chose "Best Day of My Life" by American Authors b/c it's such a happy, feel good song :-).  Enjoy!

Have a great one!

Just started this debut, and I'm already hooked!

Teaser:

"So I was correct--the Dairy Queen boy didn't go to Annandale.  And, in a spectacular display of idiocy equaled only by my booth dive yesterday, I'd just assaulted him with a writing utensil.  Well played."--pg. 25 Mila 2.0

Lol!!  The sci-fi/teen Bourne Identity plot initially sold me, but Mila's hilarious voice is totally compelling.  And since it's also, TUNE IN TUESDAY, hosted over at Kate's Tales of Books and Bands, here's my choice for this week :-).  Bloodstream (Henrik Schwarz Remix) by Stateless.  Love the drums, love the haunting lyrics, love.it.all.

Hope everyone has a great week!

I'm just about to dive into this one, and so as not to ruin anything for myself, I kinda, sorta cheated.  Here's my teaser/the first two sentences ;-)

Teaser:

"I bear a deep red stain that runs from my left shoulder down to my right hip, a trail left by the herbwitch's poison that my mother used to try to expel me from her womb.  That I survived, according to the herbwitch, is no miracle but a sign I have been sired by the god of death himself."

I.Love.It.Already.  Hope the entire book's as good as the beginning.  I am expecting great things :)

Hope everyone's having a terrific week, and if you haven't already entered, the I LOVE STEAMPUNK Giveaway is still on!

Just starting this YA, but it looks like a good one.  Plus, the MC is named Lucy.  Love that name :-)

Teaser:

"She held her hand against his.  She waited.  Her mouth tried to open in a gasp of love, but she would not let it.  Her eyes began to water, but she sucked her tears back in."

Finally, I know what all those Team Luc buttons are about ;-)

Teaser:

"If there's a Hell on Earth, it's high school.  And if there's anyone distinctly qualified to make that statement, it would be me."

Okay, so I kinda cheated since these are the first two sentences--but I just love how they automatically put you in Luc's head.  I knew who he was right from the start, and I have no idea why anyone would choose the angel, Gabriel, over Luc...well, except for that whole demon thing ;).

Teaser:

"'I care about you, Fin.  More than I should probably admit, but I'm not going to share you or fight for your affection.'  Then--because he couldn't help himself--he kissed her fingers."

--page 32 of galley

I like Griffin--a LOT--especially when he says/does things like this.  But what can I say?  I'm a Jack Dandy girl at heart :D

Hey everyone! Just thought I'd do a teaser to go with my review of The Pledge by Kimberly Derting.

Teaser:

"In all my life, I'd never heard anything like it.

The world shivered around me in protest.

His language was strange, and the inflection of his voice was heavy and rough-edged, but the meaning of his words was crystal clear.

I heard what Brooklyn never would:

"This childish beauty smells delicious.""

Pretty great, right??  Now off to check all the other teasers :D

My teaser is actually from a historical romance that I am loving at the moment!!  I couldn't resist participating this week b/c I'm 60 pages in, but I can already tell Courtney Milan is going to be a new favorite ;D

Teaser:

"It reminded him of the cacophony of an orchestra as it tuned its instruments: dissonance suddenly resolving into harmony.  It was the rumble, not of thunder, but its rolling precursor, trembling on the horizon.  It was all of that.  It was none of that.  It was sheer animal instinct, and it reached up and grabbed him by the throat.  HerHer."

Gah!  I can't even...just wow!!  It's nice to see adult romance can be just as passionate and heady as YA.

Hope everyone's having a great week,
