Insecure Writer's Support Group: INSPIRATION

I can't believe it's already December! O__O That means it's almost 2015, and I can't even...wow this year's gone by fast.  Honestly, the flat out, plain truth is I'm still insecure about basically everything having to do with my writing.  Submission really did a number on me, so confused about what my next step should be yadda yadda...  So, this week I decided to make my IWSG post about a few of my favorite things (yes, that's a Sound of Music reference :)) that inspire me to write.  Here's a short list:

1. Songs and lyrics
2. Movies
3. Sherlock :)
4. Real life conversations/interactions (I love to people watch!)
5. Books, books, books
6. Dance choreography
7. Famous Quotes...like this one from Ernest Hemingway: "There is nothing to writing.  All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed."

Yep, pretty much.  So what are your writerly inspirations?  What are are you working on?  I'd love to know!

Happy Holidays,

Ninja Girl

  1. Love your list! I need to make one of those. I'm a huge Sherlock fan, too. Just visited the Sherlock Holmes Pub in London on vacation. Got a mug and checked out the replica of 221B Bakers Street. :)

Music and movies are my biggest inspiration.

  4. I adore writerly quotes. Somehow I always think of myself writing in a bubble and all my feelings are unique and noone else has ever felt them and then I read one of those quotes and it's like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders.

I get a lot of inspiration from every day things like a fire drill training I went to the other day helped me figure out some things for an action scene in my book! Life really does make the best fiction.

Hang in there with your novel. I know it's amazing. Don't let submissions hold you back and if all else fails self publishing could be your way out!

  5. Great inspirations! It looks like we had a similar idea to share some inspirational things for this last IWSG post of this year.

  6. I know people who've found inspiration in all of these - except the dance choreography. That one's a first for me! All of us have doubts about our abilities. It takes courage every day to keep plugging away.

(Thanks for commenting on my blog. I'm so glad I helped you realize it's not just you. And there are many more dissatisfied clients who're just afraid to leave.)

  7. I love music too and it does inspire me. Certain songs can inspire a particular scene in my writing. Movies are great too. Thank you for visiting my blog and commenting.

  8. Keep your head up! And sometimes, it is better to not think about it for a while. That's what I do. lol

  9. I think submission kind of destroys everyone. I mean, i know it did me, and i had good results, so i can't imagine going through all for an extended period

  11. I love that saying by Wayne Gretzky: "You miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take." I used to have it hanging above my computer when I was querying agents and entering contests. It prompted me to take chances I might not have otherwise.

  12. Hey! It's 2015! =) I love your list of inspirations. I take inspiration from listening to my kids when they don't know I am and rare moments of peace in the outdoors.

Here's to an amazing new year, eh?
